Information About Messinia Museums
On the ground floor you can see exhibits connected to the rural life, the farming industry and weaving art, pottery and a complete picture of the pre-industrial way of life in Messinia. On the next floor the exhibit starts with pieces regarding presswork and book-binding and there is a replica of an old traditional coffee shop along with material regarding the 1821 Revolution.
This museum has a rich collection of maps, photographs, models and replicas to help the visitors get a better understanding of the various aspects of the culture and how they evolved in the region.
This exhibition includes the railway station and the surrounding area, the 2-storey building of the stationmaster, 4 boarding platforms with the ticket box and the benches. There is also a water tower with a stone base, 3 water hydrants for locomotives and a metal bridge. Quite a few of the transportation material and trains are also exhibited.
The tour in the museum begins with the uniforms, war and photographic material from the 1821 Revolution, followed by the Macedonian War with special reference to the Messinian soldiers, followed by the Balkan Wars. A great part of the exhibition is dedicated to Asia Minor as well as the WWI and WWII, to the battles of the trenches and the of Crete, to the Middle East and the National Revolution. Finally there is mention to the peace-keeping missions of the Greek army (Korea, Somalia, former Yugoslavia, Gulf wars, Afghanistan).
